Paul Heyman: “Triple H is not a dictator; he’s a collaborator – He’s the best editor I’ve ever worked with”

During an appearance on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Paul Heyman commented on the creative differences between Vince McMahon and Paul “Triple H” Levesque. Here is what Heyman had to say…

“Vince was a dictator. It was his money, and therefore, it was his show. You were going to be the Executive Director, the lead writer, or his top idea man.

You had better be good at pitching. It was a constant chase to get Vince to buy into your ideas over his own. That’s the dynamic of pitching to Vince McMahon. He’s right. He has the right to be wrong. It’s his show.

If you could sell Vince, you could sell the talent, the lieutenants, and the audience. If you were that good of a salesman, he would buy into your idea. Then, it became his idea because he was the owner and got the credit.

That’s not how things work today. Paul Levesque is not a dictator. He’s a collaborator. Vince loved a blank piece of paper. Paul Levesque doesn’t like a blank piece of paper. He accepts that the paper already has writing on it.

He’s the best editor I’ve ever worked with in my entire life. He’s an open collaborator who walks into a room with no expectations of his own vision. His vision is to listen to very smart people who have different ideas than he does. He’s a collaborator the likes of which I’ve never had the pleasure of working with. It’s just a completely different experience.”
