Danhausen speaks out of character about success in wrestling: “I think the athletic part is important, but it’s not everything”
In a video published to YouTube, WWE star Danhausen spoke out of character to Bayley’s Lodestone seminar participants about being a successful performer in professional wrestling…
“I think the athletic part is important, but it’s not everything, which is good because not all of us are super athletic. I’m not. But I’ve made that a strength, and you guys can do that too, as long as you focus on what you do well.
I think William Regal actually said that. He was like, ‘I just hide all the sh*t that I’m bad at and focus on the things I’m good at,’ and that seems to work. I’ve used that, and it seems to have worked for me.
I guess if you’re an independent wrestler and you’re doing merch, I always try to follow the rule of: ‘Would I wear this?’ If I would not wear it, I do not release it because that sh*t sucks.
That kind of comes from the character stuff too. What do you like? Do you like movies? What movies do you like? What does their movie poster look like? What music do you like?
You’ve taken that and made a character out of it. That’s something people can connect with, and it stands out. I think that’s the best thing — to stand out.
I know [convincing people on your character] it’s not easy. It’s kind of deciding if you want to die on that hill. If it’s really, really worth it to you, then yes, I think you fight for it and just be like, ‘Hey, this is my shit. This is our time. We’ve got five to ten minutes, or whatever it might be, to show these people who we are, and this is who I am.’
Can we think of a way for us to get into this? I think it’s just about being respectful, polite, and nice.”
