Brie Bella recalls Vince McMahon changing the script moments before WWE segment
Brie Bella and Stephanie McMahon looked back on their 2014 WWE rivalry, which centered around the storyline involving Brie’s husband, Bryan Danielson aka Daniel Bryan. During an appearance on the What’s Your Story? Podcast, Brie recalled the backstage situation leading into her ‘I Quit’ segment with Stephanie.

Here was the exchange…
Brie Bella: “Can we talk about, I don’t know if you remember this. So, do you remember how the script kept changing? And then we’re in Gorilla and your dad [Vince McMahon] was like, ‘Wait, I think it should be something else.’ And you were kind of like, ‘What?’ And then you looked at Bryan and I and you go, ‘You know what? I’m just going to ask you guys questions. Just answer them. And we know, Brie, at the end, you’re quitting.'”
Stephanie McMahon: “Don’t even remember that.”
Brie Bella: “And your music hit and you left. And I looked at Bryan and I go, ‘What game plan is it?’ And he goes, ‘She’s going to ask us.'”
Stephanie McMahon: “We knew what we needed to end with.”
Brie Bella: “And you were always great about that.”
Stephanie McMahon: “Well, because you didn’t have a choice because that was not unusual for promos to change last minute. You just have to be able to go with it.”
Brie Bella: “I know. And you and Bryan, like, just did it so beautifully.”
Stephanie McMahon: “Well, we had such a story for so long.”
Brie Bella: “You guys did. There was a great chemistry.”
Stephanie McMahon: “It was the best, and he was like the man of the people, like the people were behind him, and we were the evil, evil authority.”
Brie Bella: “It couldn’t have just been more perfect. And I even felt like the way I came into it was all organic. I do remember my one spot was ‘I quit,’ slap, and I just think I concentrated too hard on it because I know when I slapped, I was like, ‘Oh sh*t.'”
Stephanie McMahon: “My teeth were locked. It was good because I was prepared for that one.”
Brie Bella: “You just—your facials. I mean, they’ve always been.”
Stephanie McMahon: “I don’t think that was acting…”
