Wrestle Review: The Week That Was
We are one week away from WWE’s Elimination Chamber and the card is coming together. The men’s chamber match for the WWE Championship is Lashley defending against Lesnar, Rollins, Theory, Riddle and Styles. Becky Lynch and Lita for the Raw women’s title, Uso’s and Viking Raiders for the Smackdown tag titles, Reigns and Goldberg for the Universal title, Drew McIntyre apparently going back to curtain-jerker status, facing Madcap Moss. Liv, Doudrop, Rhea, Nikki, Bianca and a participant to be named later for the Raw women’s title. I honestly thought Sonya would put herself in until last night. Charlotte had just defeated Naomi to successfully defend the Smackdown women’s title. Then Sonya came in and tore into Naomi. Enter Ronda Rousey to save the day. She, of course, has chosen to challenge Charlotte at WrestleMania. A few minutes after the show, Charlotte and Sonya vs Naomi and Ronda was signed. But that’s a week from today. Let’s talk about this week.
Raw was a bore, for me at least. The RKBro/Academy stuff has been funny I suppose. But let’s move one. AEW Dynamite saw CM Punk win the right for a rematch with MJF by teaming with Jon Moxley to defeat FTR. I’m thinking Punk vs MJF II takes place at Revolution. Lance Archer took another L in a big match, this time losing a Texas Death match to “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW Championship. Adam Cole confronted Page post-match. Please give us Page vs Cole for the title at Revolution! I need it! We also saw the debut of Keith Lee, as he qualified for the Face of the Revolution ladder match. By the way, Face of Revolution is FTR for those scoring at home. It means nothing. Just a coincidence.
This Wednesday, Chris Jericho and Jake Hager face Santana and Ortiz. I’m guessing after their summit last week that the Inner Circle is no more. I mean, Sammy quit the group again. Honestly, the Inner Circle has run its course. Mercedes Martinez faces Thunder Rosa in a no disqualification match. Wardlow and Max Caster face off in a Face of the Revolution qualifying match. Bryan Danielson faces Lee Moriarity in a match that should be pretty good, even though we all know the outcome. Sammy Guevara will defend his TNT Championship against Darby Allin next week as well as Rampage action featuring Dante Martin vs Powerhouse Hobbs and Trent Barretta vs “Switchblade” Jay White.
AEW should be good next week. Honestly, WWE is looking fair, too. I anticipate a big, fun week of wrestling. That’s what watching wrestling is supposed to be: fun. Until next weekend, you can always catch my podcast Blendertainment available anywhere you get your podcasts: Spotify, Apple, etc.
