Speculation about CM Punk being a possible opponent for Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 39

As previously noted, Steve Austin is reportedly open to doing another match following his WWE Wrestlemania 38 appearance. Speculation about Austin having another match at Wrestlemania 39 in California has been fueled by a new workout video published to his Instagram story.

In regards to the rumors, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that “there is smoke to that fire and there are discussions happening.” During Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer discussed potential opponents for Austin at Wrestlemania 39 and brought up CM Punk as a possibility if Punk is recovered from injury and legally able to appear

“It’s all hands on deck they got they got two nights of Wrestlemania. There’s big money matches that he can do, I mean there’s a bunch of them. I don’t know what the legalities would be for Punk but I think actually that’s the biggest money of all the matches that he could do.”

Meltzer added that if Punk isn’t available, John Cena or Brock Lesnar would be the next best options to face Austin.
