Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Gunther for the WWE title took place at WWE Clash In Italy 2026. Here are the highlights…

The two had a feeling-out process in the early moments. Cody went for an early Cody Cutter attempt but was struck with a chop in mid-air. Gunther went for the sleeper, but Cody was able to avoid the move. Cody used Triple H’s Pedigree, but Gunther kicked out and regained the advantage with a powerbomb.

Gunther was eventually able to apply the sleeper on Cody. Cody tried to power out, and Gunther reapplied it, but Cody eventually reached the bottom rope with his foot.

Cody fought back, and after connecting with a Cody Cutter, Cody hit the Cross Rhodes and secured the victory. Replay footage showed that Gunther’s foot was under the bottom rope, but the referee’s decision was final.
