Alberto Del Rio rumored to have signed a new WWE contract as part of AAA acquisition

During the WWE WrestleMania 41 Countdown Show, WWE announced its acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA. This week, it was noted by Ernesto Ocampo of SuperLuchas.com that the AAA wrestlers who “already signed a contract” with WWE are as follows…

* Hijo de Dr. Wagner
* Hijo del Vikingo
* La Parka
* La Hiedra
* Lady Flammer
* Lady Maravilla
* Niño Hamburguesa

Ocampo stated the following…

“Many fans, especially in the U.S., are assuming that by buying AAA, WWE is also acquiring the contracts. But aside from the fact that the sale hasn’t been finalized, those contracts are of no use to WWE, as WWE’s contracts are legally distinct and include multiple provisions and clauses—such as exclusivity, intellectual property rights, and termination conditions—that AAA’s do not address or enforce. That’s why new contracts are replacing the existing ones.”

Del Rio, who is 47 and the current AAA Mega Champion, previously teased returning to WWE once his legal issues were cleared up. In 2021, it was reported that officials in WWE had “no interest” in bringing back Del Rio.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com wrote on Twitter/X that Del Rio has signed a new contract with WWE but also noted the following…

“Want to make clear I don’t expect Alberto on WWE regular television. They are signing talent from AAA and for AAA.”

Despite what has been reported, Cory Hays of PWNexus wrote the following…

“Alberto has not signed. If he’s retained, he will only be working in Mexico under the AAA umbrella but nothing has changed as of right now.”
