Lawsuit filed against AEW and Jon Moxley for alleged negligence, civil assault, and battery

Jon Alba of SI.com is reporting that Christopher Dispensa, a production crew member contracted with AEW since 2019 through Broadcast Service Group, filed a civil lawsuit on May 30th 2025, in Wayne County Circuit Court against AEW and AEW world champion Jon Moxley (Jonathan Good). The lawsuit alleges negligence by AEW and Moxley, as well as civil assault and battery by Moxley, stemming from an incident during a May 10th 2023 edition of AEW Dynamite in Detroit, Michigan.

Dispensa claims that during a cage match between Moxley and Kenny Omega, Moxley unexpectedly shoved him to the ground while grabbing a screwdriver, causing severe neck and shoulder injuries requiring cervical fusion and shoulder surgeries. The lawsuit asserts Moxley deviated from the script, constituting assault and battery by showing intent to harm or reckless disregard for Dispensa’s safety. It further alleges Moxley had a history of disciplinary issues known to AEW. Multiple high-level AEW sources, speaking unofficially to SI, denied knowledge of such issues and one described Moxley as a respected “locker room leader.”

The filing states the following…

“By going off-script and violently shoving Plaintiff, who was only a crew member, to the ground, [Moxley] demonstrated a substantial lack of concern for whether a severe injury would result to a production crew member at the event. In taking no precautions or preventative measures to protect production staff, Defendant AEW’s actions likewise show a reckless disregard for the safety of production staff which goes beyond simple inadvertence.”

Dispensa seeks compensation exceeding $25,000 for medical expenses, disability, lost wages, pain and suffering, mental anguish, reputational damage, and other economic and non-economic losses under Michigan law. His legal team, Raitt Law, PLLC, noted he was demoted to carpenter by Broadcast Service Group without explanation and has not worked with AEW since December 5th 2024. AEW declined to comment on the pending litigation to SI.
