Former AEW world champion MJF reportedly has shoulder surgery with no timetable for his return

As seen during the 2023 AEW Worlds End PPV event, Samoa Joe defeated MJF to become the new world champion and MJF has not appeared on AEW television since the PPV. In March, MJF’s shoulder injury was said to have been “significant” and his recovery had reportedly been “progressing slower” than what was anticipated.

On Saturday, wrestling podcast host Jason Solomon provided an update on MJF via Twitter/X…

“So a bit of news. Hearing through the grapevine that it will be a while yet before we see MJF back in the ring. PT was not a success and he had to go under the knife. Not sure of any timetable, but that’s obviously a blow to AEW. His presence has been missed.”

The official Twitter/X account for WrestlePurists.com confirmed the news…

“Sources close to the situation have confirmed to WrestlePurists that MJF has undergone surgery on his left shoulder. MJF was originally aiming for a March return and met with Tony Khan in Boston to discuss creative plans. The injuries to MJF and Adam Cole have dramatically affected creative plans for MJF vs Undisputed Kingdom feud. Max was looking to wrap the program up. There is no timetable for his return.”
