CM Punk possibly has backstage heat in AEW after calling out Adam Page on Dynamite

As previously noted, it was said that “nobody knew” CM Punk would call out “Hangman” Adam Page for an AEW world title rematch during the August 17th 2022 edition of Dynamite. There is speculation that CM Punk calling out Page was a “receipt” for something Page said in a promo prior to the 2022 Double or Nothing PPV.

A source told Fightful Select the following in regards to Page not coming to the ring in response to CM Punk…

“Even if he was aware of it, what would he have done? Charged to the ring past Tony (Khan)? Interrupted a promo he knew he wasn’t supposed to be a part of? There was no way Hangman could have ‘won’ in that situation.”

During Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com noted that what Punk said was not an angle to build a match between Punk and Page. Alvarez also said the following…

“There were plenty of people backstage furious at CM Punk because Hangman is a well-liked guy. They felt bad for him and they were upset with Punk. Now of course, Punk has friends as well. His supporters are angry because they believe Hangman was the one that started this.”

“I know it’s wrestling. I know that people think everything is a work or this is like an MJF deal. I’ve talked to so many people… it’s not. This is a real situation. It was called ‘unprofessional’ by all sides.”
