Cash Wheeler considered retiring from wrestling following his 2023 aggravated assault with a firearm arrest

AEW star Daniel Wheeler aka Cash Wheeler of FTR was arrested in July of 2023 by the Orlando Police Department and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. Wheeler’s case was closed in May of 2024.

While speaking with Renee Paquette on Close Up, Wheeler’s tag team partner Dax Harwood revealed that Wheeler considered retiring from wrestling after being arrested…

“From my perspective, he told me when everything happened. I guess a week after he told me what happened, he said, ‘we have two separate contracts. ‘He said, ‘I think I’m going to retire because I don’t want to subject you to any of this stuff that I’m going through.’ He knew the backlash on Twitter because it’s a cesspool. ‘I’m just going to retire. You don’t have to worry because your contract is with you. I’m going to leave wrestling.’ I had to talk him into not retiring.”

“For me, I didn’t love it. At the same time, it was the only chance I had to escape from that. I literally didn’t know which match would be the last one. Every time we were going out there, ‘Alright, let’s go out there.’ The ones that believe me, they believed me the whole time. It was something that I was willing to do. It’s an hour-long process. It’s the same ten questions, they ask in a different order, and they ask four times. I was willing to go through it. I did everything I could on my end to make sure the people who did believe in me.” (quotes courtesy of WrestlingNews.co)
