Samoa Joe comments on his mindset in regards to retirement plans

AEW star Samoa Joe did an interview with SHAK Wrestling. Here is an excerpt from the conversation…

SHAK Wrestling: “I don’t want to rehash conversations about retirement or anything like that, but I’m curious: coming back now after your most recent filming stint, when you take these small sabbaticals and come back, what is the primary feeling? What are you trying to accomplish? What does this stage of your career mean to you?”

Samoa Joe: “I mean, really, just putting on meaningful, fun matches for the fans, you know? I think, you know, trying to consistently give people something to tune in for and have a good time with.

And listen, my time frame is still not quite nailed down, but I will say this: I want to leave as many good memories as I can while I have the opportunity. I think that’s just the best way to approach things right now.”

SHAK Wrestling: “I think there’s certainly been an abundance of it. MJF once described the AEW roster as an embarrassment of riches, and I think the fans would agree as far as it comes to your career, Joe. Outside of pro wrestling, what is the thing that you’re chasing the most? Whether it’s a particular role, something personal to you, voice acting, acting—what’s really driving Joe the most these days?”

Samoa Joe: “Oddly enough, man, I’m doing my best to enrich the places that have enriched me over my career. It sounds super noble and all this stuff, but in reality, I’ve had this amazing journey that really hasn’t been fraught with a lot of heartache and despair and stuff. It’s really been this kind of grand adventure where I got to meet a ton of cool people, go to a ton of cool places, and learn to love the world.

It’s a rare opportunity, if anybody ever gets it, to literally travel the world and understand that it’s a beautiful place. There are a lot of places that have a lot of love for you, as long as you have the best intentions.

And, yeah, man, I’d like to sprinkle a little bit back before I’m done and hopefully leave the pro wrestling industry a much better place than I found it.”
