ESPN shuts down claim that the network won’t be renewing its contract with WWE

In a post published to SEScoops.com, BJ Bethel stated the following about WWE’s relationship with ESPN…

“Only one year into ’s five-year deal to air World Wrestling Entertainment events on its Unlimited app, the network won’t be renewing the contract when it expires. Multiple sources told SEScoops the deal faced several problems, including the current media market, ‘culture and synergy’ issues between the two companies and the failure of cable providers to pick up the cost of the app for customers.”

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com received a statement from ESPN in regards to Bethel’s report…

“There is no truth to the report that we have decided not to renew. They never checked with us before publishing and had they, we would have told them that was completely false.”
