Breaking news: CM Punk wins the WWE Title from Sami Zayn on WWE RAW

The July 6th 2026 episode of WWE RAW in Chicago opened with WWE Champion Sami Zayn arriving at the arena and encountering Cody Rhodes. The conversation was interrupted when Gunther attacked Cody from behind. Gunther powerbombed Cody through a table. Gunther then kicked Sami’s car door into Cody.

Later in the show, Jackie Redmond confirmed that Cody was not cleared to compete and Sami said it was unfortunate. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce interrupted, reminding Sami that the fans in Chicago had been promised a WWE Championship match and announcing that Sami would still defend the title later that night.

CM Punk ended up being Zayn’s new opponent. After a competitive back-and-forth match, Punk connected with the GTS and pinned Zayn to win the title. Afterwards, Punk celebrated his victory with fans as pyro went off.
