Backstage news regarding the condition of Cody Rhodes after being injured at WWE WrestleMania 42
While speaking at the WWE WrestleMania 42 post-show, Joe Tessitore announced that Cody Rhodes had suffered an eye injury during his match with Randy Orton and was being treated by doctors. The clip quickly went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter), showing Rhodes with a bloodied and bruised face, while his left eye appeared swollen shut.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, WWE sources did not clarify whether the injury resulted from a punch—possibly one thrown by Orton during a slugfest that appeared to land hard—or from accidental head contact during the Cody Cutter into the RKO sequence.
Cody was placed in concussion protocol and remains in it, although it is believed he did not suffer a concussion. The protocol was described as a precautionary measure.
Cody has not yet been fully evaluated for the eye injury, but there is currently no indication of an orbital bone fracture, which would be serious enough to sideline him for an extended period.
Sources told Bodyslam+ that Cody is not expected to relinquish the WWE title at this time. His status for Backlash remains uncertain pending a full evaluation of the eye.
WWE will continue to monitor Cody’s health in the days leading up to SmackDown.
