Cody Rhodes on the Pat McAfee storyline: “I’m not saying he’s a clown, it’s just an interesting fit”

During an appearance on Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes addressed Pat McAfee’s involvement in his storyline with Randy Orton for WWE WrestleMania 42…

“I’ve been told that some of the people in his orbit—his circle—think he’s the next Sylvester Stallone in terms of TV and film. I don’t know if I’m getting that. From what I’ve watched, I have very limited knowledge on Pat other than I love me some College GameDay.

I’m glad there are people who like to pitch themselves into WrestleMania and these big moments. I’m flattered he wants to be a part of it.

Hey, I’ll say this—because he kicked me below the belt here—that was an NFL punter. You might want to stay away from those legs. I don’t know, that might be it.

Randy Orton, who I’m wrestling at WrestleMania, we have almost two decades of history between each other. He was my mentor. I had [John] Cena, who I drove around, and I had Randy—very different opinions—but he really helped shape me. We were on screen together as part of his group, Legacy. He had my dad’s last match, my first match in the company—it’s Randy.

There was a lot of rich story material, and then we inserted Pat McAfee—and that’s where we are right now.

You know, the troops are all outside and there’s that one clown. I’m not saying he’s a clown in that regard—it’s just an interesting fit. And we’re going to see where it goes.”
