WWE Summerslam 2023 news items regarding MMA rules, opening match, and potential addition to the card

Here are a few WWE Summerslam 2023 news items via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com…

* According to Meltzer, the belief is that an MMA rules match between Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler will mean the match can only end by knockout or submission. Meltzer added, “we do know the reason nothing was announced is because they hadn’t settled on exactly what MMA rules means.”

* As previously noted, Logan Paul requested to have his match kick off Summerslam as his brother Jake is fighting the same night in Dallas and he wants to fly out right away so he can attend the match in person. Meltzer confirmed that the match is expected to open the show.

* As previously noted, Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus was reportedly pulled from Summerslam due to timing issues. However, it’s possible that there could be a last-minute addition to the card as Raquel Rodriguez was promised a world title match by Adam Pearce as soon as she’s cleared.

Meltzer wrote the following…

“It leaves that open for a last day surprise where Rodriguez can say she was cleared and have the match, which was still on the books two weeks ago.”
