Updates on Ric Flair and Tommy Dreamer following Dark Side of the Ring controversy
In September of 2021, a Vice TV Dark Side of the Ring episode premiered which featured the WWE’s “Plane Ride from Hell” in 2002. One of the stories from the episode involved Ric Flair allegedly exposing himself to an attendant during the flight and making unwanted advances. Tommy Dreamer was suspended from Impact Wrestling after his interview remarks about Flair’s alleged actions received backlash from viewers.
At first, the episode has led to consequences in regards to Flair’s CarShield commercials and other business deals. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that the fallout from the show appears to be over as Flair apparently filmed an energy drink commercial this past week and has resumed doing autograph signings. Meltzer wrote that “one promoter who Flair canceled out of this past week noted that the advance orders for him were over $10,000 when he pulled out.”
Fightful.com is reporting that Dreamer was suspended by Impact for one set of tapings (around a month of television episodes) and was then brought back in his agent and producer roles. While there was initial heat on Dreamer, sources within the company felt that the “punishment fit the offense” in his situation.
