Update on MJF’s status after he reportedly had a flight booked out of Las Vegas

As previously noted, MJF no-showed his scheduled meet-and-greet appearance during AEW’s Fan Fest on Saturday. It was later reported that a flight out of Las Vegas was booked for him even though he has a match scheduled against Wardlow for tonight’s AEW Double or Nothing PPV.

Early Sunday morning, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com provided the following update…

“We are told MJF is still in Las Vegas as of this writing, which would mean he did not fly back to the East Coast, which until an hour or so ago remained a possibility. For those who are asking if the situation is a work, that is a big NO, but obviously everything can be retroactively converted into one if everyone gets on the same page.”

Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com then had an exchange on Twitter with Fightful.com’s Sean Ross Sapp about the story…

Alvarez: “At this point I feel pretty confident in saying I do not believe a plane ticket was ever purchased.”

Sapp: “I saw physical evidence to the contrary, which was later verified by multiple outlets independently. There was one purchased. By who I don’t know. It was booked before the meet and greet at an expensive price.”

Alvarez: “Definitely something weird going on.”

Sapp: “That I agree on.”

As of 6:00 AM EST Sunday morning, nobody from AEW has publicly commented on MJF’s status for tonight’s PPV. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com wrote that “MJF is in town and appears to be wanting to be Brian Pillman.” While working for WCW in 1996, Pillman became known for his “worked shoots” where he blended reality with fiction. Pillman ended up going to WWE after he convinced Eric Bischoff to let him out of his WCW contract.
