Update on Brian Cage’s AEW status and if WWE is interested in signing him

In January of 2023, it was reported that Brian Cage’s AEW contract was coming close to its expiration date. In an update, Fightful Select noted the following about WWE potentially being interested in signing Cage…

“Fightful Select has been told that WWE has maintained interest in Cage in the event he becomes a free agent, and are open to having conversations with the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champion. That period won’t have to wait long, as we’re told AEW and Cage agreed to work together through the end of March, specifically the ROH Supercard of Honor PPV.”

It was also mentioned that according to those familiar with the situation, AEW offered Cage a contract extension comparable to his current deal and there are “heavy hitters” within the company that are supporting Cage. Chris Jericho is one name that has publicly gone on record and said Cage should “absolutely” be signed to a new contract.
