Update on AJ Styles’ contractual status with WWE amid retirement rumors

In the fall of 2024, AJ Styles started a retirement storyline on WWE television but ended up missing several months of action after suffering a foot injury. Styles returned at the 2025 Royal Rumble and is now feuding with intercontinental champion Dominik Mysterio.

According to Fightful, Styles has told those close to him that he signed a one-year extension with the company. It was noted that there is no clarity on when the extension was signed or when it is set to expire. It is also unknown if WWE has added any time to Styles’ contract due to injuries.

Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net wrote on Twitter/X that Styles “is enjoying his time in WWE and is going to retire there.” In October of 2024, Styles seemingly ruled out the idea of having a final run with TNA Wrestling

“As much as I love the guys and girls that are there and respect TNA as much as I do, I think this is my last stop, in WWE. I don’t want to do it anymore. And it’s not because – of course I want to wrestle. But my body, it’s like, ‘Please stop. Please stop.’ I think this would be a good place to end my career, in the WWE.”
