Roxanne Perez angle in WWE NXT being described as a “cover story” for something else
As seen during the March 7th 2023 edition of WWE NXT, Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez retained her title over Meiko Satomura. However, Perez suddenly collapsed after the match in a moment similar to when Shawn Michaels collapsed during an episode of WWE RAW in 1995.
Shawn Michaels announced that a multi-woman ladder match will be taking place at Stand and Deliver 2023 to potentially crown a new champion. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted the following regarding what is going on with Roxanne…
“The reason it’s so vague is because the actual situation really is so vague, they actually don’t know what exactly is going on. So until they do, they kind of have to go in there with, ‘Well, we don’t know if she’s stripped (of the title)’. Just a whole bunch of things going on.”
“What I was told was it’s a vague situation in the sense that, hopefully there’s nothing wrong, but there might be. She didn’t faint after the match, that was a cover story for the fact that something may or may not be going on, and they don’t know exactly, so therefore they did the Shawn Michaels angle.”
When Meltzer’s co-host Bryan Alvarez questioned how Roxanne was able to wrestle a full match if something was going on, Meltzer mentioned that it could have been something such as a shoulder injury that she was able to work through. Meltzer also said the following…
“I was just told that it’s a cover story for something, and they don’t know exactly what it is so therefore it’s a vague story, because the actual situation is vague.” (quotes courtesy of WrestleTalk.com)
