Samoa Joe (c) vs. Swerve Strickland for the world title took place at AEW Dynasty 2024. Here are the highlights…

* The two had a feeling out process as the crowd chanted “Swerve’s house.” Swerve dropkicked Joe out of the ring and went for a dive but was caught and slammed onto the announce table. Joe exposed the concrete floor but that allowed Swerve to connect with a dive. However, Swerve’s momentum was short lived and Joe powerslammed Swerve on the concrete.

* Back in the ring, Joe slowed the pace down and worked over Swerve. Swerve made a comeback and targeted Joe’s arm. Swerve went for an arm submission but Joe powered out. Joe hit the muscle buster but Swerve kicked out.

* Joe brought the AEW title into the ring but Swerve took advantage of the situation. Swerve hit 450 splash followed by the Swerve stomp but Joe kicked out. Joe gouged the eyes and applied the Coquina clutch but Swerve escaped. Swerve snapped Joe’s arm and hit a house call kick but Joe kicked out again.

* Both men were up in the corner and Swerve managed to hit Joe with a powerbomb. Swerve then hit another Swerve stomp and pinned Joe to win the title. An emotional Swerve celebrated with fans at ringside as the show ended.
