Results of Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WWE Wrestlemania 39

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the unified WWE Universal title took place at WWE Wrestlemania 39 Sunday. Here are the highlights…

* Before entering the ring, Cody hugged his daughter Liberty and gave his weight belt to Brodie Lee Jr. aka Negative One. A piano ensemble performed at the start of Roman Reigns’ entrance. Reigns came to the ring with Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman as Michael Cole ran down the names that Reigns has defeated during his title run.

* The crowd popped when the bell rang and there was a staredown between Reigns and Cody before they locked up. Cody got the advantage and Reigns took a break on the outside with Heyman giving him a pep talk.

* Cody got in some more offense but then Reigns took control after hitting a powerbomb. The fight went to the outside and Reigns slammed Cody onto the ramp. Cody started to make a comeback but Solo used a steel chair while the referee was distracted. Solo also grabbed at Cody’s ankle.

* Reigns tried to put Cody through the announce table but Cody gave Reigns a back body drop through the other table. Cody was selling his ribs but managed to get Reigns back into the ring. Cody hit the cutter but Reigns kicked out.

* Solo used the weight belt on Cody while the referee’s back was turned but the referee heard the sound and kicked Solo out of the ringside area. Reigns tried to use the belt but Cody caught Reigns with a superkick. Cody nailed the Cross Rhodes but Reigns kicked out. Cody hit the pedigree but Reigns kicked out again.

* Reigns regained the upper hand and hit a superman punch but Cody kicked out. Cody avoided the spear and applied the figure four leglock but Reigns escaped.

* The two traded blows and Reigns hit the spear but Cody kicked out. Reigns applied the guillotine and Cody initially fought out of it but Reigns was able to reapply it. Just when it looked like Cody was finished, he broke out and delivered several punches. Cody went to kick Reigns but accidentally hit the referee.

* With the referee down, The Usos attacked Cody and laid him out with the 1D. However, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn made the save and took down Reigns with a stunner and Helluva kick. Cody made the cover but Reigns still managed to kick out.

* The match continued as Reigns and Cody continued to trade shots. Cody did the Dusty bionic elbow followed by the Cross Rhodes multiple times. However, Paul Heyman got on the apron and Solo took out Cody with the Samoan spike. Reigns then hit the spear and pinned Cody to retain his title.
