MJF (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW world title took place at AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door 2023. Here are the highlights…
* MJF had “NJPW is an indie” written on the back of his robe and “Ace is ass” written on his elbow pad.
* There were dueling chants as the two taunted each other. MJF started to leave but then Tanahashi got a “coward” chant started and MJF returned to the ring.
Toronto crowd lives rent-free in the head of MJF.

* MJF took control and delivered a superplex but Tanahashi kicked out. MJF hurt his knee which gave Tanahashi a chance to get back into the match. MJF called Tanahashi a “joke” which just fired up Tanahanshi. Tanahashi applied a Texas cloverleaf submission but MJF got to the rope.
* Tanahashi went for a top rope splash but MJF got his knees up which hurt MJF as well. MJF brought the AEW world title in the ring but it was taken away. While the referee was getting rid of the belt, Tanahashi rolled up MJF but the referee wasn’t able to make the count right away. MJF then used the Dynamite diamond ring while the referee didn’t see and scored the pinfall victory.
