Report: WWE will continue using AI for promotional materials despite online criticism

WWE’s SummerSlam 2026 match graphics and promotional posters have drawn criticism from fans, with some accusing the company of relying on AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork. One fan claimed WWE had used an “AI Nick Aldis” image on an official SummerSlam poster, while others pointed to inconsistent AI-looking Viking backgrounds across multiple match graphics. Another user argued that after an AI-generated graphic containing typos (ie “Minnebota”) was corrected, WWE simply fixed the text rather than redesigning the artwork, calling it evidence of a lack of effort. Others have criticized the overall quality of the posters, saying they lack the feel of a major premium live event and comparing them unfavorably to previous SummerSlam campaigns.

Some confusion has also emerged because fan-made AI posters have circulated online alongside WWE’s official graphics, leading to false claims about which images were actually produced by the company. Even so, the broader criticism reflects an ongoing perception among many fans that WWE’s recent promotional graphics have become increasingly generic and overly reliant on AI-style design, with some creators even producing custom non-AI graphics to demonstrate what they believe the official artwork should look like.

Twitter/X account @WRKDWrestling noted that “while WWE is well aware of the negative online reaction to its use of AI in match graphics, promotional posters, and other materials, the company plans to continue increasing its use of AI-generated content both on and off screen over the coming months.”
