Pat McAfee confirms that he has “finished his story” with WWE and adds that “the business doesn’t need to be saved after all”

As seen during the April 3rd 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown, Pat McAfee was revealed as Randy Orton’s mystery phone caller after he attacked WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Following his appearance, McAfee published a video with the caption, “I will make a deal with the IWC now..If @RandyOrton doesn’t win at Mania.. I will NEVER be seen OR HEARD on wrestling television AGAIN.”

Cody ended up retaining his title against Orton at WrestleMania 42. While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee addressed the outcome…

“So I would like to let everybody know that although the mission, was supposed to be Randy Orton saving the business, I think what happened instead was, Cody Rhodes proved he is the one…

Cody Rhodes was obviously very admirable. Randy Orton is still everything that I said he was. But good news is the business doesn’t need to be saved after all. And good for them.”

“And for me, I finished my story… It was probably my fault because as I was trying to motivate Randy, all I wanted him to know is that everything else was sh*t and he was the king. It turns out the American Nightmare still got the throne. The wrestling business just kind of [in the] rearview mirror. And to the wrestling business, I’d like to say thank you. Thank you so much.”
