News regarding why Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland were booked to win the AEW tag team titles

As previously noted, Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland defeated the Young Bucks and Team Taz (Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs) to capture the AEW tag team titles in the main event of AEW Dynamite’s “Fyter Fest” special on July 13th 2022.

According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, the match on Dynamite was designed to elevate both Lee/Strickland and Team Taz to the level of other established teams in the company. Meltzer noted that the teases of a Lee/Strickland split were done to make the win a surprise and they were always planned to win the titles. At least for now, the plan isn’t for the Young Bucks to face FTR for all of the tag team titles.

Regarding how the Hardys factored into plans, Meltzer wrote the following…

“When Jeff Hardy had his issue and the Young Bucks got the tag titles, necessary since it was the Christian turn on Jungle Boy plan, they (The Hardys) were set to immediately lose to Lee & Strickland. The feeling has been that Lee & Strickland have had tremendous matches and they are going with this Shaq/Kobe idea of the large, charismatic upbeat guy with the other superstar on the team that doesn’t always get along.”
