News regarding John Cena’s WWE status heading into Wrestlemania 39

As previously noted, WWE United States champion Austin Theory has been using John Cena’s “the champ is here” catchphrase on television in recent weeks and a segment was reportedly filmed with them on December 30th 2022 that hasn’t aired yet.

While Cena is expected to be part of Wrestlemania 39, his appearances on television leading up to the event will likely be limited due to his current movie project. Variety.com reported that Cena and co-star Zac Efron arrived in Melbourne, Australia to start filming Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky. Production will be taking place through February and March which should make Cena available in time for Wrestlemania.

It’s believed that Cena’s schedule and lack of time to prepare was a factor in WWE going with Cena vs. Theory instead of Cena vs. Logan Paul.
