Ludwig Kaiser aka El Grande Americano enters “not guilty” plea and requests a trial in battery case

WWE star Ludwig Kaiser aka El Grande Americano, whose real name is Marcel Barthel, was arrested on May 20th 2026 in Orange County, Florida. Barthel was charged with battery after allegedly assaulting a man at their apartment building.

Attorney Thomas D. Sommerville formally filed a notice of appearance on behalf of Barthel. Through his attorney, Barthel waived his appearance for arraignment proceedings and entered a written plea of “not guilty” to the charge against him. The filing also states that the defense is requesting a trial and asks the court to allow ten days from the scheduled arraignment date to file any motions challenging the charging document.

Barthel, through his attorney, filed a notice stating his intent to participate in the discovery process under Florida criminal procedure rules.

The filing requests that prosecutors provide a wide range of evidence and materials related to the case, including witness names and statements, police and investigative reports, any statements allegedly made by Barthel or potential codefendants, surveillance information, search and seizure records, expert reports, physical evidence, and any items that could be tested for DNA.

The defense also requested disclosure of any information involving confidential informants or informant witnesses, including potential benefits offered in exchange for testimony and any prior cooperation history known to prosecutors.

Barthel filed a motion requesting permission from the court to travel outside of Florida and internationally while his battery case remains pending.

According to the filing, Barthel learned about the arrest warrant on May 19th 2026, while he was in Mexico for work. The motion states that he immediately arranged travel back to Orlando, surrendered to authorities on May 20th, and was released after posting a $1,000 bond with a no-contact condition involving the complainant.

The defense argued that Barthel’s work as an international performer requires frequent travel throughout the United States and overseas in order to remain employed. The filing also notes that he has no prior criminal history, maintains his innocence, and intends to appear for all required court proceedings.

Based on those factors, the motion asks the court to approve both out-of-state and international travel during the case.
