Football Hall of Famer and former WCW star Steve “Mongo” McMichael passes away

It was reported by FOX 32 Sports on Wednesday that football Hall of Famer and former WCW star Steve “Mongo” McMichael, who had been battling ALS for the last three years, has passed away at 67. Earlier in the day, it was announced that McMichael had entered hospice care.

Ric Flair issued a statement via Twitter/X…

“The world just lost the incredible Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael! He was my best friend through it all! An amazing athlete and human being! I have the fondest memories working with him, and this is an extremely heartbreaking loss for me! I love you, Mongo! You fought one hell of a battle! Rest in peace, my friend!”

After making an appearance at WWE WrestleMania 11 in 1995, McMichael joined WCW as an announcer. In 1996, McMichael became an in-ring performer and joined The Four Horsemen. After being diagnosed with ALS, McMichael was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
