Early speculation regarding when the John Cena Classic might take place

During the 2026 WWE Backlash PLE, John Cena announced the first-ever “John Cena Classic” — the best of today vs. the best of tomorrow. Cena confirmed that there will be a new event and a new championship. The fans will also determine the winner through a voting process.

According to WrestleVotes Radio, the John Cena Classic is still in the early planning stages, with neither a date nor a venue finalized following Cena’s appearance at Backlash. Sources stated to the outlet that as of the days following the announcement, no firm logistics had been put in place.

One source indicated that an early December timeframe has been discussed, which would coincide with the one-year anniversary of Cena’s retirement match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December of 2025.

WrestleVotes also reported that Netflix expressed interest in hosting the event on its platform shortly after the Backlash announcement, although no agreement has been finalized.
