CM Punk reportedly “at odds with AEW” again over matter involving Ace Steel

As previously noted, AEW officially confirmed the new weekly Collision show for Saturday nights but there was no mention of CM Punk despite rumors of him being the show’s focal point.

Connor Casey from ComicBook.com reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery and received the following statement: “CM Punk is not affiliated with TNT’s AEW Collision.” In regards to ComicBook’s report, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com stated that “as of this afternoon, based on what we are hearing, that would be correct.”

Johnson noted that “the rumor making the rounds is that Punk and AEW are again at odds currently, now over the status of the return of Ace Steel.” It appears that Steel, who was involved in Punk’s backstage altercation with The Elite, was going to be brought back with Punk in a role behind the scenes. However, Johnson heard a story making the rounds from backstage at Dynamite about how “a decision was made that Steel would not be working backstage at the actual Collision tapings.” In a sign that Steel was looking to return to AEW, Johnson mentioned how Impact Wrestling sources said they recently had interest in giving Steel a tryout but he turned it down.

Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com tweeted that “there is definitely a story with this CM Punk deal.” During Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez said the following…

“He’s gotten mad about various things many times, and it has been a tight rope walk with CM Punk. There were graphics with Punk, now there are graphics without Punk. So it’s not impossible that this deal has fallen through.”
