Big E reveals the original WWE Title plans for WrestleMania 38 prior to changes being made

While speaking to Sam Roberts, former WWE Champion Big E revealed the original WWE title plans for WrestleMania 38 prior to changes being made…

“The plan was, what we were moving towards initially, was it was supposed to be me and Seth [Rollins] in a singles match at Day 1. I was going to drop the title anyway. So I was supposed to drop the title to Seth. We come back in at WrestleMania, we do it again, and I regain the title.

[So it was going to be you and Seth at Mania?]

At Mania. That was what was originally… you know, things change all the time, so who knows what was meant.

I think by the time we got to December, it had already started morphing because it was me and Seth. Seth was named as the number one contender. I can’t remember exactly when that was, but we had a lot of lead time before Day 1 on January 1st.

So creative, the office, was like, ‘Okay, well, we need a filler program.’ So then KO [Kevin Owens] got added. Then it became a three-way thing for a little bit. Then Bobby [Lashley] needed something to do. Vince [McMahon] loves Bobby. So Bobby’s inserted. So it was supposed to be a four-way at Day 1.

Then Roman [Reigns] is sick, now Brock [Lesnar]’s in. So this match that was supposed to be a singles, where I dropped the title at Day 1 and regained it at WrestleMania, doesn’t even look anything close to that anymore. And by the time we get to WrestleMania, my neck is broken. My career is over.

So that whole butterfly effect is kind of insane. And I don’t mention any of this because it’s ‘woe is me, I should have gotten a WrestleMania spot.’ But it’s so funny how life works.”
