AEW was reportedly not allowed to do a “big” tribute to Jay Briscoe on television

During the January 18th 2023 edition of AEW Dynamite, a graphic was shown for the late Jay Briscoe at the start of the show and wrestlers were seen wearing armbands throughout the broadcast. In regards to why a tribute show similar to Brodie Lee in 2020 wasn’t done, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that “there was not any kind of big tribute because they were not allowed by WarnerMedia to do one.” As previously noted, WarnerMedia was reportedly against the idea of the Briscoes appearing on TBS or TNT due to homophobic comments made by Jay in the past.

After Dynamite and Rampage in Fresno, AEW taped a ROH tribute show for Jay which will air for free on YouTube and Honor Club. Click here for spoilers.

Meltzer added that there will be another tribute show. It’s expected that there will be some kind of memorial for Jay at the SuperCard of Honor PPV in March.
