Some people within WWE were said to have been against Sami Zayn regaining the world title

As seen during the September 11th 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown, CM Punk lost the WWE Title to Sami Zayn. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com discussed the title change. Here is what Meltzer had to say…

“With the Sami Zayn thing, the basic gist was—they have a storyline that will make sense when you look back on it, is what I was told. And when it’s all said and done, this will all make sense. There were certainly people who were against it, but they did it and that was that.”

If both men remain champions, Zayn will face his former Bloodline teammate, World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, in a Champion vs. Champion match at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, November 7th.
