What is being said about WWE potentially changing Wrestlemania 40 main event plans again due to negative feedback
As seen during the February 2nd 2024 edition of WWE Smackdown, Cody Rhodes seemingly stepped aside for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to face Roman Reigns at WWE Wrestlemania 40. The Vince McMahon sex trafficking lawsuit, WWE canceling creative plans for Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk getting injured were said to be factors in plans being changed.
WWE has received negative feedback regarding the Rock vs. Reigns match and various mainstream news outlets including TMZ have covered the situation.
During a Q&A, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com commented on WWE potentially changing plans again…
“They can change direction any time they want and pivot to something different, including the original Cody vs. Roman plan. Whether they actually do remain to be seen. My gut is that we’ll see Rock vs. Roman but it’s always possible Rock and/or WWE management will see the negative responses and seek to prevent that from getting worse. We’ll see. I know that WWE was absolutely monitoring the responses.”
At Saturday night’s WWE live event in Knoxville, TN, there were fans that booed when footage of The Rock from Smackdown was shown on the big screen.
