WWE LFG: What’s the point of season three?

I’m watching this season of LFG, which really seemed to never end, and I’m asking myself: what’s the point of the show this year?

I used to really like the concept of having teams competing for an NXT contract, as it did help hide the fact that this was taped months ago. And while the girls who won the second season of LFG ended up being duds—Tara May Steel got released, and Skylar is pretty much just used to job to bigger stars—it did pretty well for the male winner, as both guys have received big pushes on NXT.

But this year, it just feels like a show with no purpose, as most of the talent on that show have either already been called up to NXT, sent to AAA, or released.

Just look at some of the names already on NXT who are supposedly fighting for an NXT contract:

Tate Wilder: Debuted on NXT a few months ago.

Romeo Moreno: Started on NXT a few months ago and is teaming with Noam Dar.

Nikita Lyons: Current Evolve Champion and has been featured on NXT for a while now.

Kam Hendrix: Started on NXT in April and is already involved in some of the top stories on that brand.

Myka Lockwood: Has been on NXT for months as part of the Vanity Project.

Carlee Bright: Got released a few months ago.

Dorian Van Dux: Is part of the NXT and Evolve rosters.

Elio LaFleur: Injured, but was on NXT before the show aired.

Harlem Lewis: Evolve Champion and has had some matches on NXT.

Kali Armstrong: Has been part of the NXT brand for a while.

Keanu Carver: Has been a focus of NXT for months.

Kendal Grey: Only appeared on one episode, but was already a big part of NXT before that episode aired.

Layla Diggs: Has been on NXT for a few months and is part of Natty’s faction.

Masyn Holiday: Released from WWE.

PJ Vasa: Featured name on Evolve and started having matches on Main Event.

Sirena Linton: Released from WWE.

Trill London: Released from WWE.

Tristan Angels: Featured guy on NXT since April.

Chris Island: Released from WWE.

We also had Apollo Crews being a featured part of the show even though he was released in April and had already had some matches for other companies, including TNA.

So my question is: how can you be invested in their journey when you already know what the results are going to be for most of them?

I know that they need to produce some programming for A&E, but this version of LFG isn’t compelling television. It’s just become like most of the WWE product, which is formulaic and boring because of how predictable it has become, and it really doesn’t need to exist anymore.

I don’t know how many episodes they have left, but from what I’ve seen, we’re just arriving near the point where a lot of them are going to be called up or released, as next week’s episodes are from WrestleMania weekend.

So, for me personally, I really hope this season ends soon, and then they either go back to the old format or don’t return for a fourth season, as this show in this format just doesn’t work.
