Wrestle Review by: Andy Sullivan/Fyter Fest

Fyter Fest week one will feature Claudio Castagnoli vs Jake Hager and Anna Jay vs Serena Deeb. It’d be nice if they gave Anna the win but we know Deeb is taking this one. The Young Bucks defend the AEW tag titles against Swerve in our Glory as well as Starks and Hobbs in a triple threat. Oh, AEW doesn’t call it triple threat. I can’t keep up. Do they call it a three-way dance or is that what Don West called triple threat matches when he was calling the action in Impact?

Fyter Fest week one continues with Jonathan Gresham defending the ROH title against Lee Moriarity and Private Party facing the Lucha Brothers on Rampage. Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho meet in a barbed wire death match with the JAS suspended above the ring in a shark cage. That’s the following week, I suppose celebrating shark week.

On Smackdown, we were supposed to get official word that Drew McIntyre was going to be the next to fall to Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle. Instead, his match with Sheamus didn’t even get started. Maybe they’ll do it next week. Speaking of Reigns, he’s about to join some pretty esteemed company. Two years ago, just after SummerSlam, Reigns won the Universal Championship from The Fiend and Bruan Stroman in a no-holds-barred triple threat August 30, 2020. If Reigns makes it out of SummerSlam at the end of this month, and makes it all August as champion, he will reach 2 years as Universal Champion, the longest reigning Universal Champion of all time. He shouldn’t lose to Lesnar at SummerSlam. Quite honestly, they don’t need to have him lose to Theory yet. I say let him reach and even break the milestone.

I’m so glad Liv Morgan won the Smackdown women’s title last Saturday. Too bad she’s probably going to lose it at SummerSlam. Ronda gets her rematch and I figure she beats Liv, injures her and turns heel. I have another thought for SummerSlam. This past week, Gunther destroyed R-Truth on Raw. Truth and John Cena have been tight for years. I know it’s been said that Cena is out of SummerSlam because he’s filming the next season of Peacemaker. What if Cena does make a surprise appearance and challenges Gunther for the intercontinental championship at SummerSlam? That’s the only title Cena has never won. I was expecting him to break Flair’s 16X mark but who knows?

The Viking Raiders once again wrecked shop this week on Smackdown. I’d love to see them come after Jimmy and Jey Uso but that’d be heels vs heels and we know how the old man feels about that. However, the old man finds himself in VERY hot water at the moment. Who’s to say Stephanie won’t be at the helm for quite a while? We need to see the Street Profits get cleanly defeated again by Jimmy and Jey, though. I originally thought we’d see that, and maybe a SP split, at SummerSlam. Time will tell. I’m thinking we get that rematch between Raiders and New Day, and the Raiders further bury Kofi and Woods at SS. Who did Kofi piss off, by the way? Time was he was WWE champion. Then he got squashed by Lesnar. Sure, he won the tag titles in New Day again but lately….oof! Same goes for Woods. When Kofi was out, Woods won King of the Ring. He was riding high. They even had the King Woods and Sir Kofi gimmick. That just lasted a few weeks, right?
