Quick review of the Mr. McMahon docuseries on Netflix

Just finished watching the entire Mr. McMahon docuseries, and here are my honest thoughts on the show.

Honestly, while the people behind the show played it safe, I felt the producers and director already had an agenda of making Vince and everyone in his entourage look bad, which was exactly what I expected.

The content itself didn’t present anything we didn’t already know, so in that sense, this show was made more for non-fans who wanted to learn more about Vince and WWE, and less for those of us who wanted a deeper look into Vince and the allegations surrounding him.

I really hated the part in episode 2 where they went after Pat Patterson, especially when they tried to get Tony Atlas to say he was sexually abused by Pat. This was awful and done only to hurt the family and friends of Patterson, since all the allegations against him have been proven false. The only reason there were so many accusations against Pat is because he was gay.

I have to say that Meltzer did a great and impartial job retelling WWE’s story and even gave Vince credit for what he accomplished, which was refreshing considering some of the things Dave has said in the past about WWE and Vince.

I wasn’t a big fan of the editing in the last episode, particularly how they set up Bruce Prichard. They had him explain why he wasn’t a fan of the show, then had him tell a heartfelt story about Vince, only to place it right before the segment about the current lawsuit. It made Bruce look like a complete idiot and undermined the entire purpose of his story.

Finally, I thought Vince really showed his age in this. It seemed like he had lost a lot of his cognitive abilities, and it was hard to watch when he was rambling about his own moments and actions.

In the end, if you were expecting a big exposé about how deviant Vince is and a piece that would hurt WWE, you’re not going to get that. It’s still somewhat of a hit piece, in my opinion, but it feels more like an A&E biography-style product where they make him look bad and only tell one side of the story. However, it’s safe enough that it won’t hurt anyone directly involved and will be quickly forgotten.

If I were to rate this show, I’d give it a 5/10.
