Jay’s Ways – Chelsea Green With Envy
I will give her credit. Since the release, she has been very appreciative, hasn’t been bitter, hasn’t ripped on past employees or just bashed WWE. That is the easy thing to do and sadly, A LOT of guys/gals do it after being released. I get venting your frustrations and taking a couple shots as you exit…but there does come a time when it just appears to be bitterness or sour grapes. Green has not done that. Thus far, she has taken the high road, and I have liked that.
Well, on the latest episode of her podcast, Green With Envy, all of that went out the window. Here is the quote from Fightful.com via 411mania.com:
“So, I was champion at IMPACT Wrestling in 2017 into 2018. I had such a great two years there at IMPACT Wrestling, but I kind of still look back on my time there and I think of how young I was and naïve I was and, and just how new to wrestling I was. IMPACT hired me when I was only two years into my career. That is unheard of to be thrown on TV after only two years of wrestling. It’s a different monster and a different beast when you get hired by WWE because they have a Performance Center, they have a developmental program but in IMPACT, if they hire you, that is because you are TV ready and you are put on live television right there. So the fact that they had that much faith in me is just wild. Anyways, on Canada Day, IMPACT Wrestling put out this 60-minute episode all about me — or I should say about Laurel Van Ness, my character’s name, and highlighted my career. Obviously, that’s not the messy moment of the week. But it got me thinking about what is the messy moment? How the f**k can I go from IMPACT being named champ, gave me main event matches, they aired a 60-minute show solely on me to WWE, where I couldn’t even get on TV for over a year? Like, tell me how that’s possible. I feel like I haven’t been bitter about WWE since I was released. I’ve been open-minded about the release and the fact that doors are now open for me since the WWE door closed. But this time, I just couldn’t help it. I was feeling a little bit annoyed with the WWE system. You know, I was super excited to be featured on TV. But there was just this weird feeling of having two polar opposite emotions at once, feeling a little bitter, and a little sad. Then also feeling very f**king proud and very confident in who I am and where I’m going. So that was kind of the messy moment of the week for me. I think you guys probably get where I’m coming from.“

Let’s start with the obvious. It sure looks like Chelsea Green is heading back to Impact Wrestling. Her exit from there was a little messy, but they will take anybody with talent back within five seconds. They don’t care. They need all the star power imaginable, and any talent with potential is welcome in Impact. Her fiancé is there, and she has Canadian ties to those in power. Good for her. I expect her to show up as soon as she can. Whether it is for a legitimate contract or just a pay-per-appearance deal, it doesn’t matter. She appears to be on her way to Impact. I’d be shocked if that doesn’t happen.
Now to the meat of the matter – her saying aloud how she can go from main event stuff in Impact to NOT even being on television in WWE…where should I begin?
Big fish in a little pond maybe? A lot of folks have done great in Impact but couldn’t do jack in WWE. Same with any elite team/outlet and some small rent operation. Just because you excel in a soundstage with tourists doesn’t mean you will stand out in a sold out arena for the biggest company in the world. That explanation makes no sense.
Banking off that point, Impact from a few years ago was NOT the “TNA” from ten years ago. Sting, Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode, Jeff Jarrett, Rhino, Raven, Christian Cage, James Storm, AJ Styles, Daniels, Samoa Joe, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, Ric Flair, Mick Foley – those guys were the main event in Impact Wrestling. Nowadays, who cares what main events Impact? Completely different times. Bragging about headlining/closing Impact and then trying to compare that to a WWE run is not even close to being in the same ballpark.
As for her run in WWE, I know she hates the injury prone label. I get it. She doesn’t like that is annoyed whenever it is brought up. Sadly, the facts are she debuted and/or received a spotlight in WWE two or three times and each time…she got hurt. Heck, one of them was literally her Smackdown debut where she was PLANNED TO WIN AND BE FEATURED ON PAY-PER-VIEW! Mid-match injury, plans changed on the fly, and surgery needed. Boom, done. I believe Chelsea even said she was recently at the WWE Performance Center for treatment/rehab on her recovery. I mean, come on. You have to see that side of things. WWE gave her chances to succeed, no denying that. Could they have given her another one? Yeah, probably. They could have…or they could have simply moved on.
Which they did.
I like Chelsea Green and think she has a ton of potential. She has proven that all over the globe. There is a reason why WWE originally signed her years ago and even re-signed her to a long-term deal less than a year ago! They absolutely know her talent and think the world of her. However, when push came to shove, tough decisions had to be made in order for WWE to maintain those record profits and keep the NXT/WWE talent system going. Call ups, promotions, new deals, signings, etc.
I hope this Impact run is an “F YOU!” to WWE and she delivers big time. Then Vince McMahon, Triple H, or whoever comes calling again in a year. I hope that is the case here. A part of me also believes her man, Matt Cardona (Zack Ryder) is also aiming for a WWE return down the road, but that is another column for another day. Bobby Lashley was released by WWE once. Drew McIntyre was released once. MVP has been released. The list goes on and on. WWE will be happy to take you back if you go out and prove your worth. That is my hope here. No injuries, no more petty comments, no bitterness. Just go do your thing and show us all how much WWE missed out.
