WWE Title match officially confirmed for SummerSlam 2026

The July 10th 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown opened with WWE Champion CM Punk as he addressed the SmackDown crowd and revealed that he had been negotiating a move to the blue brand before accepting Monday’s surprise title opportunity. Punk vowed to be a fighting champion who would defend the title regularly, welcoming challenges from names such as Sami Zayn, Gunther, Finn Bálor, Royce Keys, Damian Priest, and Trick Williams.

Cody Rhodes then interrupted, and the two acknowledged that a WWE Championship match between them had been building for years. After Cody challenged Punk to face him at SummerSlam, Punk accepted with a handshake. General Manager Nick Aldis then made the WWE Championship match official.
