WWE no longer signing independent wrestlers for the time being?

As previously noted, WWE is in the process of revamping the NXT brand.

The belief is that WWE will be moving away from signing independent wrestlers and focus on scouting top level athletes. Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that WWE’s plan is to scout talent by how they look and then train them to become wrestlers. Meltzer wrote the following following regarding the matter…

“Several in the company have told us that the word from the top is no more independent talent as far as scouting and such (keep in mind no ‘no more’ doctrine in wrestling really means that and guaranteed this will change in time) and that AEW can have all the independent talent to itself.”

In regards to hiring indy wrestlers, WWE President Nick Khan recently stated in an interview with Ariel Helwani that “we don’t want to just keep doing that same thing, we want to look elsewhere for great young talent.”

The September 14th edition of WWE NXT at the Performance Center will be live and is expected to debut the new “look” for the brand.
