WWE changes the name of NXT vs. TNA “Invasion” show following backlash from Israeli editorial

During the 2025 No Mercy PLE, WWE NXT general manager Ava announced an NXT vs. TNA Wrestling “Invasion” show for October 7th. An editorial from the website israelhayom.com criticized the event name…

“The choice of the name and the date – a day when Israel commemorates the memory of the massacre from October 7, 2023 – is viewed as extreme insensitivity. The term Invasion, on such a sensitive date, which directly recalls the infiltration of Hamas terrorists into the southern communities and the mass killings of Israelis and Americans, raises questions about who in the organization is responsible for this preposterous decision.”

During the September 30th 2025 edition of WWE NXT, it was confirmed that the show’s name has been changed from Invasion to Showdown. Santino Marella said the following in a promo…

“This is not an invasion. We’ve been working together wonderfully for months now. This is more of an NXT and TNA showcase, no no no… a SHOWDOWN.”
