Where things reportedly stand between The Rock and WWE in regards to a potential Wrestlemania 40 match

As seen during the September 15th 2023 edition of WWE Smackdown, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise appearance in a segment with Pat McAfee and Austin Theory. In regards to rumors of The Rock possibly having a match at Wrestlemania 40, Justin Barrasso of SI.com noted the following…

“After speaking with multiple sources close to WWE, the decision about Wrestlemania will not be The Rock’s to make, nor is the main event even a topic of substance. There are currently no plans for this to happen.

Even if it were offered, it would not be a certainty that Johnson would even accept. He has multiple obligations, and if he is part of a movie that is filming, he simply would not be able to take the risk of wrestling.”

Cody Rhodes is seemingly the favorite to face Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 40 and a rematch between the two was teased on the October 13th 2023 edition of WWE Smackdown.
