What WWE did for the Throwback edition of Smackdown on May 7th 2021
The May 7th 2021 edition of WWE Smackdown was a special “Throwback” edition in conjunction with NASCAR on FOX.
Here were some of the things WWE did for the special…
* The mid 1980’s WWE signature opening was used.
* There was a “throwback” intro featuring The Rock along with classic footage and the Prime Time Wrestling theme was used.
* Michael Cole was wearing a 90’s denim jacket while Pat McAfee was wearing a suit that Vince McMahon would wear during the 1980’s.
* Footage was shown from classic Smackdown moments including Triple H vs. The Rock on the first episode, Steve Austin attacking Booker T in a supermarket, Edge winning the tag team titles with Hulk Hogan, and Brock Lesnar’s suplex to Big Show causing the ring to break.
* The opening pyro was similar to what was done in the late 1990’s.
* Teddy Long made an appearance.
* There was a virtual Smackdown fist shown.
* There were commercials for ICO-PRO and WWE ice cream bars.
* 1980’s style WWE graphics and music were used throughout the show.
