Over the past few weeks, there was talk of CM Punk potentially having a match against KENTA at the 2023 AEW/NJPW Forbidden Door PPV event. However, it appears that the match isn’t going to happen.
According to Fightful Select, NJPW sources confirmed that Punk vs. KENTA had been planned but was as no longer scheduled as of the weekend. Fightful noted the following…
“KENTA expressed to NJPW and AEW that he isn’t facing CM Punk at the Forbidden Door show, as word started to make way around Collision this past week. As of the first episode of Collision, AEW was considering who CM Punk should face at Forbidden Door, or if he’ll even be wrestling on the show.”
Punk has reportedly expressed his willingness to participate in a match. It remains to be seen if another opponent can be selected for Punk as several of NJPW’s top talents are already booked for other matches.
Kenta vs Punk is never going to happen.
