The WWE Universal championship officially listed as “retired”
The WWE Universal Championship, first won by Finn Balor at WWE SummerSlam 2016, is now officially listed as “retired” on WWE’s website. While Cody Rhodes was previously listed as the last champion, Roman Reigns is now recognized as the final titleholder. The WWE Championship, won by John Cena at WrestleMania 41, remains active and is listed separately.
Reigns’ title run began at WWE Payback on August 30th 2020, and ended at WrestleMania 40 on April 7th 2024, when he was defeated by Cody Rhodes. Reigns was the longest-reigning Universal Champion with a reign lasting 1,316 days, marking the fourth-longest world championship reign in WWE history.
