The latest details regarding CM Punk’s injury and surgery

As previously noted, AEW world champion CM Punk announced during the June 3rd 2022 edition of AEW Rampage that he is injured and will need surgery. An interim AEW world champion will be crowned at the Forbidden Door PPV and will face Punk in a unification match once he is cleared to wrestle again.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com wrote the following about the nature of the injury…

“The belief among talent was that it was a broken foot (Max Caster actually said it in his rap) and while neither the company nor Punk would say that, there have been very strong hints to me that was the injury.”

It’s also not exactly clear when the injury happened. Meltzer noted that within wrestling, it’s believed that Punk was injured during the June 1st Dynamite from jumping into the crowd and hitting the guard rail badly. There was also a springboard spot from the six-man tag match where Punk lost his balance.

Punk had surgery on June 8th and it apparently went well. Meltzer noted that the injuries to the bones were said to have been worse than expected but everything was fixed up during the procedure. There is currently no timetable for Punk’s return but it’s believed that he will be back before the end of the year.
