Rhea Ripley shares update on Buddy Matthews’ recovery from injury

As seen during the 2025 AEW Grand Slam: Australia event, Kazuchika Okada successfully defended the Continental title against Buddy Matthews. During his entrance, Matthews appeared to have injured his ankle while entering the ring. He has not wrestled since that event.

Matthews made an appearance at the World Series Wrestling: Rise Against show this month and noted that he hopes to be cleared in October. During an appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s podcast, Matthews’ wife Rhea Ripley addressed his recovery…

“I mean, he’s still starting to get back into the ring stuff because he got injured over a year ago in February when they went to Australia. So he got injured then, and he’s just now starting to get back into the ring and trying to rehab it and see what he can do.”

“He’ll get in and we’ll run the ropes. I’ve been teaching him some rolls since the boys’ class apparently didn’t do as many rolls as the girls’ class. So I’ve been getting him to roll. we’ve been getting in a little bit. I also get nervous about getting hurt these days because I’m always on the road and always doing stuff. I want to stay sharp, but I also don’t want to get beat up more than I already do. So I go a little easier. He’s definitely going harder than me right now because he’s trying to get back into that mode.”
